A PAIXÃO SEGUNDO G.H.
Op. 17

Between two musical notes there exists one note; between two grains of sand, no matter how close they are, there is an interval of space, there is a feeling that lies between feelings. In the interstices of primordial matter is the line of mystery and fire that is the breath of the world, and the continuous breath of the world is what we hear and call silence.
C.L.

The Passion According to G.H. is an epiphany triggered by the sight of the crushed body of a cockroach and the impulse to devour the juice that oozes from its belly. From that moment, the protagonist——G.H.——undergoes a process of inner discovery that leads her to question her identity, the limits of the self, and, ultimately, the nature of language, finding in silence its most eloquent expression.

(The trumpet notation is based on that of Joan Arnau Pàmies; the violin notation, on that of Andrew Greenwald.)
