Jaume Baixas was born in 1996 in Barcelona, where he quickly developed an interest in music and learned to play the piano. In 2020, while completing his bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Physics at the Universitat de Barcelona, he began his composition studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) under the guidance of Mauricio Sotelo, Christophe Havel, and Aureliano Cattaneo, among other professors. He has collaborated with artists such as Ernest Martínez-Izquierdo and BCN126. Recently, he was awarded at the 4th Ise-Shima International Composition Competition for his piece Nocturn.
With his compositions, Jaume Baixas is primarily interested in establishing a dialogue with music from both the past and present, seeking to expand the constellation of works that have shaped his aesthetic understanding.
He is currently working under the tutelage of José Río-Pareja on his degree thesis, which focuses on the interpretation of the work of art by contrasting the hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer with the essays of Susan Sontag.
